The Italian railway company (RFI) announced on Thursday that five Italian railway workers were killed when they were struck by a train near Turin. The workers were replacing some tracks outside the Brandizzo station on the line connecting Milan and Turin around midnight on Wednesday when a train carrying freight hit them. Italian news agency ANSA reported that the train was traveling at approximately 160 kilometers per hour. The company stated, "The company expresses its deep sorrow and offers its condolences and sympathy to the families of the deceased." ANSA mentioned that two workers managed to avoid the freight train and were unharmed. The train driver received treatment for shock at the scene and was then allowed to return home.
