The Israeli political-security cabinet, known as the "Cabinet," approved the cessation of the activities of the Al-Mayadeen media network in Palestine early this morning, Monday. According to a joint statement from Israeli Security Minister Yoav Gallant and Communications Minister Shlomo Karhi, this proposal submitted by the Israeli Information Minister is due to Al-Mayadeen posing a threat to "Israel's security." The statement indicated that "the Communications Minister in this mentioned case, after the approval of the Cabinet, can issue a decree to close the offices, confiscate broadcasting equipment, and prevent the use of various communication infrastructure by the broadcasting body." The Israeli statement pointed out that these instructions and measures against Al-Mayadeen were stipulated in 2018. The decision is valid for 30 days but can be extended for additional 30-day periods. Emergency regulations will be in effect for three months or until the government officially concludes the specified state of emergency.
