Syria's President Issues Legislative Decree to Abolish Military Field Courts

Syrian President Bashar al-Assad has issued a legislative decree that terminates the previous legislative decree from 1968 and its amendments, which established military field courts. The newly issued legislative decree No. 32 cancels legislative decree No. 109 dated 17-8-1968 and its amendments regarding the establishment of military field courts. According to the decree, all cases currently referred to military field courts will be transferred to military courts to be prosecuted according to the provisions of the Penal Code and military trial procedures outlined in legislative decree No. 61 of 1950 and its amendments.
