The Chinese military announced that it has "successfully completed" drills simulating a siege on Taiwan and has "thoroughly tested" the capabilities of multiple units under actual combat conditions. Earlier today, Chinese state television reported that aircraft, including nuclear-capable H-6 bombers armed with missiles, and warships conducted exercises "in a multi-directional siege scenario around the island." Beijing announced the drills on Saturday after Taiwanese President Tsai Ing-wen returned to Taipei following a meeting in Los Angeles with U.S. House Speaker Kevin McCarthy. China has not ruled out the use of force to bring the democratically governed island under its control. The Taiwanese government strongly rejects China’s claims and condemned the military exercises.
