High Temperatures Claim Lives of Dozens in India

The "Times of India" reported today, Monday, that "at least 54 people have died in northern India over the past few days. This coincided with authorities opening an investigation to determine if the heatwave is the cause of their deaths. A local newspaper stated that "45 more people have died in the neighboring state of Bihar." Temperatures have risen to around 45 degrees Celsius in recent days amid a severe power crisis, exacerbating the situation. While the heatwave is expected to continue in some areas today, certain parts of Assam in northeastern India have experienced flooding due to heavy rainfall.
