Hundreds of Israelis opposing the government's plans to approve judicial amendments are flowing onto a major highway leading to Jerusalem. The protesters, many of whom are waving Israeli flags and chanting "Democracy!", began their march from Tel Aviv on Saturday, covering a distance of about 66 kilometers along Route 1. They have camped out overnight in recent days in nearby parks or farms. They plan to reach Jerusalem and gather outside the Knesset, coinciding with the start of voting on a bill that would limit the Supreme Court's powers to overturn decisions made by the executive authority, which opponents see as a diminishment of judicial independence.
