After a compulsory hiatus of nearly five years, the Karakla Theatre has returned to the spotlight with the play "Phoenicia Yesterday and Today," offering a renewed experience of joy and music. Lebanese artist Abdul Halim Karakla opened his new work yesterday, Thursday, at the Ivory Theatre in Beirut, in collaboration with the Italian Embassy, surpassing the grim anniversary of April 13 and emphasizing the role of culture and art in rejecting hatred.
The performance featured 75 dancers and prominent Lebanese artists, attended by Italian Ambassador to Lebanon Nicoletta Bombardieri, Minister of Culture Mohammad Wesam Al-Mortada, Ms. Mona Al-Herwi, former Minister Leila Solh, along with several foreign ambassadors and a notable audience from artistic, social, media, and political spheres.
It is noteworthy that the script and dialogue for this work were penned by the group's founder Abdul Halim Karakla, directed by Lebanese Ivan Karakla, with choreography by Alissar Karakla, and music provided by the Karakla Center for Heritage Research.
