Man Breaks into Vatican with Car

The Vatican announced the arrest of a man who breached one of its gates while driving at high speed on Thursday evening. The statement indicated that the security breach occurred around 8 PM when the man crashed through the "Saint Anne" gate, one of the multiple entrances separating the Vatican from Rome, "without getting close to the guesthouse on the other side of Vatican City where Pope Francis resides." The Vatican stated on Friday that the public prosecutor questioned the man, who was accompanied by a lawyer. He was later transferred to a psychiatric unit at a hospital in Rome for mandatory medical treatment. Italian news agency ANSA, citing high-level sources, reported that the man made two previous attempts on Thursday to enter the Vatican, claiming he wanted to speak to the Pope, but the guards refused him entry.
