Erdogan: The System That Entrusts Humanity's Fate to 5 Countries is Unsustainable

Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan stated that the current global system is "unsustainable" and emphasized the "need to reform the United Nations Security Council." In a speech during a Ramadan iftar with foreign ambassadors, he said, "The system that confines the fate of humanity to the mouths of 5 countries is not sustainable. There is an urgent need for a comprehensive reform of the Security Council."

He highlighted that "Turkey, which bravely defends its interests, does not turn its back on the tragedies around it, does not ignore conflicts, and does not turn a deaf ear to the cries of the oppressed. Wherever there is a fire, we seek to extinguish it; wherever there is a humanitarian tragedy, we aim to stop it; and wherever there is a crisis, we strive to find a solution." Erdogan reminded that "Turkey has made mediation efforts since the beginning of the Ukrainian crisis," pointing out that "the initiative to ship grain across the Black Sea demonstrated the possibility of negotiation and consensus despite the conditions of war."
