Footage published by the Russian Defense Ministry on Saturday showed Minister Sergei Shoigu promising to increase ammunition supplies during a visit to the sites of his country's troops fighting in Ukraine. In a video shared by the ministry via Telegram, Shoigu was seen leading a meeting with senior army officers, including Chief of the General Staff Valery Gerasimov.
According to the minister, production capacities have been expanded, and the provision of troops with ammunition, including precision ammunition, has been increased many times over. Shoigu indicated that Russia would take steps to enhance ammunition supplies for troops at the front, stating, "The most requested amounts of ammunition have been determined, and necessary measures are being taken to increase them."
In recent months, Shoigu has faced severe criticism from some of the staunchest supporters of the war in Ukraine, including Yevgeny Prigozhin, the head of the Wagner private military group, who accused him of failing to provide sufficient ammunition for troops on the frontline.
