Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky stated on Wednesday that "the destruction of the Kakhovka Dam in southern Ukraine has deprived hundreds of thousands of people of a regular source of drinking water." Zelensky wrote on the Telegram app: "There is no doubt that the destruction of one of Ukraine's largest reservoirs was intentional. Hundreds of thousands have been left without a regular source of drinking water."
In turn, Deputy Prime Minister Oleksandr Kubrakov stated on his official Twitter account: "Providing water to the regions affected by the terrorist attack is a top priority at the moment." He added that funds have been allocated for the transportation of water and the commencement of the construction of water mains in southern Ukraine, referring to the undermining of the Kakhovka dam as a crime against Ukraine.
The Ukrainian Infrastructure Restoration and Development Agency noted that "the government has decided to allocate 1.5 billion Ukrainian Hryvnias, equivalent to $41 million, to create a pipeline with a capacity of about 300,000 cubic meters of water per day." The agency added that the total length of the new water pipeline will be 87 kilometers.
Zelensky also mentioned that "tens of thousands of people remain stranded in the area along the Dnipro River," as British intelligence warned that the Kakhovka dam will experience further flooding in the coming days.
