Serbian President Aleksandar Vučić resigned from his position as the head of the ruling Serbian Progressive Party during a party conference on Saturday, stating that "there is a need for a new approach to unite the country, but he will remain president." This move came a day after tens of thousands of people from across Serbia and from Kosovo, Montenegro, and Bosnia gathered in support of Vučić following mass protests against the government due to a random shooting incident that resulted in 18 deaths earlier this month. Vučić believes that "a slightly different approach is needed to unite more people who want to fight for the victory of Serbian nationalism." Another anti-government protest is scheduled to take place later.
