Macron Urges Chinese President to Convince Russia to Return to Negotiations

French President Emmanuel Macron informed his Chinese counterpart Xi Jinping on Thursday that he believes he can rely on China to persuade Russia and bring everyone back to the negotiating table. During a meeting with the Chinese president during an official visit to Beijing, Macron stated, "The Russian aggression against Ukraine is a blow to international stability. I know that I can count on you to convince Russia and bring everyone back to the negotiating table." Macron added, “I am convinced that China has a major role to play in building peace. This is what I have come to discuss, to move forward on. With President Xi Jinping, we will also talk about our businesses, the climate and biodiversity, and food security.”
