Launch of African Lion Exercises in Morocco

On Monday, the 19th edition of the "African Lion" exercises kicked off in Morocco, involving around 6,000 soldiers from 20 countries from both the continent and beyond, along with 27 observer nations. This occurs amid security challenges facing the region and competition among international powers over influence. The "African Lion 23" maneuvers will be conducted between the Moroccan and American armies for the third consecutive time in the "Mahbess" area in the Sahara and along the contact line at the border with Algeria. The first edition of the "African Lion" exercises between Morocco and the United States took place in 2007, with participation from European and African nations.
