Indian Foreign Minister Vinay Kwatra indicated today, Monday, that "India has positive intentions and an open mind regarding the expansion of the BRICS grouping." Kwatra stated, "We do not want to pre-judge the outcome of discussions on BRICS expansion." He added, "Given that the group relies on reaching a consensus, its members will need to agree on the criteria and guidelines for expansion. The idea of expanding the group does not yet have the support of all members." Kwatra pointed out that "a fundamental aspect of the discussions focuses on enhancing trade among member countries using local currencies."
