A journalist working for CBS Sports in the United States has died in Doha while covering the match between Argentina and the Netherlands at the Qatar World Cup, as announced by his wife and the U.S. Soccer Federation. According to NPR, 48-year-old Grant Wahl collapsed in the press area as the match neared its end. Medical personnel provided first aid before he was taken out on a stretcher. The Wall Street Journal reported that Wahl appeared to have suffered a heart attack. His wife, Celine Gounder, an infectious disease specialist, wrote on Twitter: "I am completely shocked." The newspaper stated that Wahl had been covering men's and women's soccer matches in the U.S. for over two decades and collapsed during the Argentina-Netherlands match. It added: "Wahl was at the quarterfinal match between Argentina and the Netherlands at Lusail Stadium, north of Doha, when he experienced what first responders on scene described as a heart attack." The U.S. Soccer Federation confirmed his death in a statement on Twitter. The federation stated: "The entire U.S. soccer community is heartbroken to learn that we have lost Grant Wahl."
