Member of the "Development and Liberation" bloc, MP Qassem Hashim, confirmed that "intensive communications are taking place among the Security Council member states to pass a decision to extend the mandate of UNIFIL forces in southern Lebanon in a modified format to ensure all stability measures." He pointed out that "what is being proposed today is a return to the foundation of resolution 1701." In an interview with "Voice of Lebanon," he noted that "Lebanon relies on the role of friendly countries within the Security Council." He stated, "It is impossible to predict the negative repercussions of non-renewal of the international forces," emphasizing that "Lebanon is committed to extending the mandate of UNIFIL, but there are forces in the international community trying to involve Lebanon in certain issues." He considered that "pushing matters toward the non-renewal of UNIFIL means that something is being planned not only for Lebanon but for the entire region."
