EU Ministers Reach Agreement on Migrants

European Union ministers have agreed on how to share responsibility for caring for migrants and refugees after 12 hours of negotiations. This led to Italy and Greece joining an agreement that had eluded the bloc for nearly a decade. EU interior ministers reached the agreement on Thursday, aiming to end years of division stemming from 2015 when over a million people, mostly fleeing the war in Syria, arrived in the EU via the Mediterranean Sea. EU Commissioner for Home Affairs, Ylva Johansson, stated, "This is a great achievement, showing that it is possible for us to work together on migration. We are much stronger when we work together." German Minister Nancy Faeser praised the agreement, calling it "historic."
