It seems that the governmental "cooking" is nearing completion. The efforts that Hezbollah has seriously initiated over the past three weeks have led to an agreement that is close to forming a government. A week is unlikely to pass after the Prime Minister-designate returns from New York, where he will head Lebanon's delegation to the United Nations General Assembly following the President's refusal to travel, before the government is born, that is, between the last week of September and the early days of October.
The complete picture of the government has not yet been finalized but it will rely on mutual concessions from President Michel Aoun and Prime Minister Najib Mikati. The former will concede the demand to expand the government to 30 ministers, while the latter will back down from the condition of ousting certain ministers, most notably the Ministers of Energy and Economy.
A source revealed to MTV that the new government will be closer to a ministerial amendment that will include some portfolios, including the Ministry of Finance, which is expected to be held by former MP Yassine Jaber, based on Minister Youssef Khalil's desire to exit the government and relieve himself of its burdens.
It is also worth noting that other ministers wish to leave the government, but they may hesitate to take this step depending on the wishes of those who nominated them. Will the government find its way to formation, after the “facilitation of passage” by Hezbollah, or will factors emerge to hinder it? Government Saraya sources appear to be more optimistic than sources from Baabda.
