The dates of June 10 and 11, 2023, will forever be etched in the memory of international ultra marathon champion Katia Rached, who achieved a historic milestone for herself and Lebanon by breaking her previous record of 168 km in 24 hours, set at the Asian Championship in India last year. Rached successfully ran a distance of 201.2 km in a single go at the Canadian Championship held in Alberta, Canada, under the supervision of the international and Canadian ultra marathon federations, with the event carrying a bronze label from the international federation.
A total of 37 male and female runners participated in the race, and Rached excelled, securing first place in the women's category and fourth place overall (men and women). Crossing the finish line while holding the Lebanese flag, this champion carved her name in gold in the ultra marathon races and achieved a new accomplishment for herself and her country, Lebanon. In doing so, Rached hit two birds with one stone: she shattered her own record and became the first Lebanese female runner to surpass the 200 km barrier.
Rached holds the title of "elite runner" in ultra marathon events, specializing in them for several years and is among the most prominent in Lebanon, the Middle East, and Asia. It is noteworthy that international runner Rached has previously participated in dozens of races worldwide, over distances of 100 km and 200 km, marking her name in the international golden register for ultra marathon distances.
