Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky revealed today, Saturday, that he held an unplanned meeting at Shannon Airport in Ireland with Sudan's Sovereign Council Chairman, General Abdel Fattah Burhan. He added that they discussed the issue of armed groups funded by Russia. Zelensky wrote on Telegram, "We discussed common security challenges, specifically the activities of illegal armed groups funded by Russia." He thanked Sudan, which is currently experiencing a violent civil conflict, for its support of Ukraine's territorial integrity. The Russian Wagner military group has conducted operations in Ukraine during the Russian invasion that began in February 2022. Western diplomats and media reported that Wagner is also present in Sudan, but the Russian group denied this.
