The US Treasury Department announced in a statement that the United States imposed new sanctions on four Russian individuals associated with the "Alfa Group," which operates in the fields of finance and investment, along with another Russian business association. These are the latest sanctions targeting Moscow's financial elites due to the ongoing war in Ukraine.
The four individuals subject to the sanctions are Peter Olegovich Aven, Mikhail Maratovich Friedman, German Borisovich Khan, and Alexey Viktorovich Kuzmichev, all of whom are part of the supervisory board of the Alfa Group, one of the largest financial and investment conglomerates in Russia that is under sanctions. The ministry also mentioned that the sanctions included a Russian employers' association linked to the Russian Union of Industrialists and Entrepreneurs.
US Deputy Treasury Secretary Wally Adeyemo stated in the announcement, "The wealthy Russian elite must rid themselves of the notion that they can run their businesses as usual while the Kremlin wages war on the Ukrainian people." The Russian embassy in Washington has not yet responded to a request for comment.
