Japanese Prime Minister Fumio Kishida unveiled a new government on Wednesday that includes five female ministers. However, this number falls short of women's representation compared to most other G7 countries. Kishida's new appointments include four new female ministers alongside Economic Security Minister Sanae Takaichi, a significant figure in the Liberal Democratic Party, which he leads and who previously ran for the party presidency and, consequently, for the premiership. Women now represent a quarter of the Cabinet members, which is equivalent to the number of women in the Italian government, for instance, but Japan lags significantly behind other members of the Group of Seven industrialized nations in this regard.
