The Iranian news agency "Nornews," affiliated with Iran's highest security body, reported today that the presidents of Iran and Syria are urging Islamic countries to take a unified stance in support of the Palestinians. The agency stated that Iranian President Ebrahim Raisi told his Syrian counterpart Bashar al-Assad over the phone, "Islamic and Arab countries, along with all the free people in the world, must come together for a unified stance to stop the crimes of the Zionist entity against the oppressed Palestinian people."
President Raisi and Saudi Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman discussed the Israeli-Palestinian conflict yesterday in their first phone call since the two countries agreed in March, mediated by China, to resume relations. Iran and Syria have long been allies in the Middle East, and Iran's economic influence in Syria has grown in recent years after providing the Assad government with lines of credit and lucrative commercial contracts.
