India has urged its citizens in Canada and those planning to visit to exercise caution as relations deteriorate following the expulsion of each other's diplomats amid an escalating dispute over the killing of a Sikh separatist leader. The Indian Ministry of External Affairs stated, "In light of the increasing anti-India activities and politically tolerated hate crimes and criminal violence in Canada, we advise all Indian citizens there and those considering travel, to exercise the utmost caution." The ministry added in a statement, "Given the deteriorating security situation in Canada, Indian students in particular are advised to exercise extreme caution and remain vigilant." India has been the largest source of international students in Canada since 2018.
