Prigozhin: I Was Promised Weapons to Continue Fighting in Bakhmut

Yevgeny Prigozhin, the head of the Russian private military group Wagner, announced on Sunday that he had been promised overnight "as much ammunition and weapons as we need to continue the fight." He indicated that the Russian Defense Ministry had tasked General Sergey Surovikin with collaborating with Wagner, describing him as "the only general who knows how to fight."

Earlier, Prigozhin reported that he had "not yet received any additional ammunition from Moscow," prior to the expected withdrawal of his forces from Bakhmut due to heavy losses and insufficient supplies. In a voice message, he stated, "As of today, no one has come to supply us with the necessary ammunition in the required quantity. There can be no attack without destroying the enemy's weapons and overcoming enemy combat systems. Wagner forces lack ammunition and cannot continue any further attacks near the city, which has been under Russian siege for nearly ten months."

He added, "Because I would be leading more men to certain death, we will begin on May 10 to withdraw the units."

Prigozhin further explained that "his forces had taken 95% of Bakhmut in eastern Ukraine, and the remaining 5% is insignificant in what is called a successful advance in the Red Army's march toward western Ukraine."
