Grossi: Israel's Threats to Strike Iranian Nuclear Sites Violate Laws

The International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) stated today, Monday, that any attack on nuclear sites in Iran would constitute a violation of international law, whether by Israel or any other country. Bloomberg news agency reported that the IAEA Director General Rafael Mariano Grossi was responding to Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu and the shift in Israeli perceptions regarding the timeline for a potential attack on Iran's expanded nuclear program. Grossi stated, "Attacks on nuclear facilities are illegal and represent a breach of the United Nations Charter and the IAEA's statute."

Israeli officials believe that the opportunity to carry out a potential attack on Tehran's nuclear program may narrow as Iran seeks advanced air defense systems from Russia, making any future military action more difficult. Moreover, the IAEA Board of Governors will not issue a new resolution on Iran this week in Vienna despite the escalation surrounding its nuclear program, following the "concrete understandings" reached by Director General Rafael Grossi last weekend in Tehran, according to diplomatic sources.
