Loss of 23 Soldiers Due to Floods in Northeastern India

The Indian army announced on Wednesday that at least 23 soldiers have gone missing following sudden floods in a valley in the Himalayas in northeastern India. According to a statement from the Eastern Command of the Indian Armed Forces: "Due to sudden rainfall, the Lunak Lake in the northern state of Sikkim overflowed, resulting in flash floods from the Teesta River. 23 soldiers are missing, and search and rescue operations are ongoing." This remote area is located in the Himalayas near the border of India with Nepal.
