Iraq: Death Sentence for 8 Prisoners Planning to Reorganize ISIS

The Rusafa Criminal Court in Baghdad announced today, Tuesday, a death sentence against "criminals" who recruited inmates within prisons for ISIS. The court stated in a press release that it "sentenced eight criminals, incarcerated in the Iraqi reform facilities (Al-Taji Prison, Al-Kifl Prison, Al-Karkh Prison), for agreeing and coordinating among themselves to contact prisoners belonging to ISIS to reorganize the group and plan for escapes from the prisons, with the aim of executing a structured terrorist project."

It was noted that "the criminals confessed to receiving instructions to reorganize ISIS within the prisons, recruit inmates, appoint emirs and leaders, and link them to the terrorist group after their release from prison." The court issued its ruling based on the provisions of Article 4/1 and in accordance with Article 2/3 of the Anti-Terrorism Law No. 13 of 2005.
