Oil Exports Between Iraq and Turkey: A Dead End

Sources confirmed to Reuters on Thursday that oil exports from northern Iraq to Turkey have not yet resumed, which means that several fields in the semi-autonomous Kurdistan region remain shut down. An insider on the exports told Reuters: "The pipeline operators have not received any instructions yet regarding the resumption of pumping." A spokesperson for Genel Energy, the operator of the Sarta oil field, confirmed that the field is currently inactive. The field produced an average of 4,170 barrels per day last year. Turkey halted the flow of about 450,000 barrels per day, representing 0.5% of global oil supplies, through a pipeline from the Kirkuk fields in Iraq to the Turkish port of Ceyhan after a ruling in favor of Iraq in an arbitration case.
