The spokesperson for former British Prime Minister Boris Johnson stated today, Wednesday, that "Johnson handed over his notes and messages during the pandemic to the government and urged officials to submit them to an independent inquiry into COVID-19." He added in a statement: "All of Boris Johnson's documents, including WhatsApp messages and notebooks, requested by the COVID inquiry, have been fully submitted to the Cabinet Office without redaction." He further stated, "Mr. Johnson urges the Cabinet Office to expedite their disclosure for the inquiry." However, the Cabinet Office opposes whether the government should release documents it believes are unrelated to the inquiry. After the UK recorded one of the highest death tolls in the world due to the COVID-19 pandemic, Johnson's government ordered an investigation in 2021 regarding the country's preparedness as well as the response of the public health sector and the economy.
