French swimmer Leon Marchand broke the world record in the men's 400-meter individual medley today, Sunday, winning the title with a time of 4 minutes and 2.50 seconds at the World Swimming Championship in Fukuoka, Japan. Marchand surpassed the record previously set by American Michael Phelps at the 2008 Beijing Olympics, where Phelps finished the race in 4 minutes and 3.84 seconds. The French swimmer outperformed American Carson Foster by a margin of 4.06 seconds, while Japanese swimmer Daiya Seto finished in third place.
