Jean-Baptiste Perlant, the director of the Challenger tournament taking place in Bordeaux this week, announced that "Spanish player Rafael Nadal declined a wildcard to participate in its competitions amid uncertainties regarding his participation in the French Open."
Perlant told the French newspaper "L'Équipe": "I offered a wildcard to Nadal's agent, Carlos Costa. He kindly informed me that Nadal continues his preparations in Manacor and that he is not ready and is racing against time to prepare for the French Open."
Nadal missed the Madrid Open, which concluded last week, after previously withdrawing from "Indian Wells," Miami, Monte Carlo, and Barcelona.
Nadal has won the French Open 14 times, a record. The second Grand Slam of the year will commence on the 28th of this month.
Nadal is suffering from a thigh injury sustained during the Australian Open, and concerns have grown regarding his absence from the second Grand Slam following his withdrawal from the Italian Open held in Rome.
