Leaders of the G7 countries affirmed today, Friday, that Ukraine will receive the support it needs in its budget for the current year and early 2024, as they renewed their commitment to provide financial and military assistance in its war against Russia.
In a statement issued from their summit that began in Hiroshima, Japan, the leaders stated, "We are taking new steps today to ensure the failure of Russian aggression against the sovereign state of Ukraine and to support the Ukrainian people in their quest for a just peace based on respect for international law."
They emphasized that they are "engaging with other countries to prevent the flow of goods and technologies to Russia through third countries, an issue that has become a greater concern for member states and Europe."
G7 members aim to take "strict" actions against any "circumvention of sanctions" that would allow for an increase in Russian revenues.
The conflict in Ukraine and growing concerns over China's increasing global power are at the top of the agenda for the G7 leaders' meeting, which includes the United States, Japan, Germany, the United Kingdom, France, Italy, and Canada.
