Deputy Hassan Fadlallah affirmed that the presidential candidate, Sleiman Franjieh, carries a clear political project and is capable of assuring all Lebanese and communicating with the outside. He noted that those who agreed on the candidate Jihad Azour are united by the aim of dismissing Franjieh. Fadlallah stated, prior to the session for electing the president, that "our team is cohesive and enters the session with confidence and conviction, and we must abandon the 'political grudges' adopted by the other side." He remarked: "We are open to dialogue and do not impose our choices on anyone; our history attests to that." He emphasized that the country's president should be elected by consensus and said, "We will exercise our freedom during today's session, and no one is capable of imposing a provocative candidate." He pointed out that "we have not allowed ourselves for 17 years to interfere in the affairs of our allies, and we will not do that now, and we have nothing to hide 'under the table.'"
