Temporary Halt to Imran Khan's Trial

Pakistani media reported that a high court in Pakistan has temporarily suspended the trial of former Prime Minister Imran Khan on charges of unlawfully selling government gifts. According to the Pakistani channel Geo TV, the suspension came after the Supreme Court ordered a lower court to examine whether the lawsuit filed by the country's election commission, as part of investigations into Khan, constituted a criminal proceeding. Khan's legal team challenged whether the criminal case being considered by the lower court could continue based on the complaint filed by the election commission. The Supreme Court ordered the lower court to review the possibility of proceeding with the case. The nearly concluded trial is linked to an investigation conducted by the election commission, which found Khan guilty of unlawfully selling government gifts during his tenure as Prime Minister from 2018 to 2022.
