United Nations Expresses Willingness to Support Gabon

A representative of the United Nations informed the military leader of Gabon on Thursday that "the institutions of the international organization are ready to support the country during the transitional phase to return to constitutional order, following a coup that ended the 56-year rule of the Bongo family." The UN Secretary-General's Special Representative for Central Africa, Abdou Abari, met with General Brice Oligui Nguema in Libreville on Wednesday and informed him that "the United Nations will assist the country as it enters a new phase."
