Police in the Pakistani-administered region of Kashmir reported on Monday that Indian forces shot and killed a civilian near the Line of Control in the disputed Himalayan region, marking the second such incident since June despite a ceasefire agreement. Riyaz Mughal, a police observer in the Kotli area of Kashmir, stated that a 62-year-old man was "unjustifiably" killed by Indian gunfire while he was farming near the line that effectively serves as the border between the two countries. Two individuals were killed in June by Indian fire, in the first major incident since 2021. India acknowledged the incident but asserted that the deceased were attempting to cross the border. The Line of Control has experienced intense gunfire for years prior to a ceasefire agreement in 2021.
