Sweden resisted a late resurgence from Japan on Friday to progress to the semifinals of the Women's World Cup for the fifth time, winning 2-1 at Eden Park. Five days after ousting four-time champions the United States in the Round of 16, Sweden dominated the 2011 champions Japan for most of the match to set up a semifinal showdown with Spain on Tuesday.
