The Carter Center announced that "former First Lady Rosalynn Carter passed away today, Sunday, at the age of 96." The statement explained that "the wife of former U.S. President Jimmy Carter died surrounded by her family." The Carter family mentioned in a statement in May 2023 that she "was suffering from dementia but was living happily in the couple's home in Plains, Georgia."
