The specialized Saudi medical team for separating conjoined twins successfully separated the Egyptian twins "Salma and Sara," who share a head region, after a complex surgery that lasted 17 hours. The operation involved 31 consultants, specialists, technicians, and nursing staff from the fields of anesthesia, pediatric neurosurgery, plastic surgery, and pediatric surgery. Dr. Abdullah bin Abdulaziz Al-Rabeeah, head of the medical and surgical team for conjoined twin separation, stated that the twins arrived in the kingdom in 2021. The medical team conducted precise medical tests that revealed the twins shared the brain and venous sinuses around the brain. He explained that the medical team decided to perform the separation in four separate operations over several weeks to months to separate the shared brain and venous sinuses, in addition to three surgeries for skin expansion by plastic surgery. The four separation surgeries took about 57 hours, with 17 hours for the final operation.
