A government official indicated today, Thursday, that "the outgoing Prime Minister of Pakistan, Shahbaz Sharif, will meet with the opposition leader to select a caretaker to oversee the general elections scheduled to take place by November." The official, who requested anonymity, stated that "Sharif and opposition leader Raja Riaz will meet this afternoon." According to the constitution, the two have three days to reach an agreement on the caretaker. If they are unable to do so, the matter will be referred to a parliamentary committee, and if that fails, the decision will rest with the Pakistan Election Commission.
