Leicester City, which has been relegated to the English Football League Championship, has announced the appointment of former Manchester City and Chelsea goalkeeper Willy Caballero as assistant to head coach Enzo Maresca. Southampton tweeted: "Thank you, Caballero, for your services to the club. The goalkeeper joined Leicester as an assistant coach after his contract with Southampton ended."
The 41-year-old former Argentine international played for City for three seasons starting in 2014 before moving to Chelsea, where he spent four years at Stamford Bridge. Caballero will begin his coaching career with the first team after spending 18 months at Southampton.
Caballero has won the EFL Cup, the FA Cup, the UEFA Champions League, and the UEFA Europa League, making him the fifth person to join Maresca's coaching staff after more than two decades in playing. Maresca left his role as an assistant to Pep Guardiola following Manchester City's treble win in the Premier League, FA Cup, and Champions League, and signed a three-year contract with Leicester.
Leicester will begin their campaign in the Championship against Coventry City on August 6th.
