The Sudanese army is considered one of the strongest armies in the Horn of Africa. It consists of 205,000 soldiers, including 100,000 active forces and 50,000 reserve forces. It possesses 191 military aircraft, including 45 fighters, 37 attack planes, and 25 military transport aircraft. Airpower is seen as one of its key strengths in the conflict with the Rapid Support Forces. Additionally, it has 170 tanks and around 7,000 military vehicles, which are also significant sources of strength, noting that it relies on the state budget for funding.
On the other hand, the Rapid Support Forces have gold mines, although there are no estimated figures on their military capabilities. The number of armed militants in their ranks is estimated at around 100,000. Their equipment consists of four-wheel-drive vehicles that carry weapons of varying strengths, anti-aircraft systems, and artillery. These vehicles allow for easy movement in urban areas. The Rapid Support Forces also have gold mines and entered the trade sector years ago, enabling them to grow rapidly.
