The United States, Canada, and Kenya joined 63 countries today, Tuesday, in pledging to significantly reduce cooling-related emissions at the United Nations Climate Change Conference "COP28" in Dubai. This commitment to reduce global cooling-related emissions represents the world's first collective focus on greenhouse gas emissions from cooling, which includes food and medicine refrigeration and air conditioning. The pledge requires countries to cut cooling-related emissions by at least 68% by 2050 compared to 2022 levels, along with a set of additional goals including establishing minimum energy performance standards by 2030. U.S. climate envoy John Kerry said at COP28: "We want to set a path to reduce cooling-related emissions across all sectors while increasing access to sustainable cooling."
