International Support Group for Lebanon: Priority for Electing a President

The International Support Group for Lebanon expressed regret over the failure to elect a president after 12 inconclusive electoral sessions. It voiced deep concern that the current political stalemate could exacerbate the erosion of state institutions and undermine Lebanon's ability to confront the urgent social, economic, financial, security, and humanitarian challenges it faces.

In a statement issued by the group today, Friday, it urged "political leaders and members of parliament to assume their responsibilities and prioritize the national interest by electing a new president without further delay." The statement added, "Any continuation of the current situation will only prolong and complicate Lebanon's recovery process, in addition to worsening the difficulties faced by the people."
