At least nine people were killed today, Saturday, when a fire broke out in a train carriage parked in southern India after a passenger tried to make tea. According to Madurai district spokesperson Sally Tapalabati, "One carriage was parked and booked by a tour company. Someone attempted to prepare tea, which caused the fire." He added, "Nine people died, three of whom were women, and nine others were injured but their injuries are not life-threatening." Local media reports indicated that passengers had illegally brought in a gas cylinder and attempted to use it.
