The Israeli army announced today, Saturday, that it received a report of a "shooting incident" in the town of Hawara in the occupied West Bank. Israeli media reported that two individuals were injured. This is the third shooting incident reported in Hawara within a month, raising concerns about the outbreak of violence during Ramadan, which coincides with the Jewish Passover in April. On Sunday, the same day Israeli and Palestinian officials pledged to calm the violence during a meeting in Egypt, a Palestinian gunman opened fire on an Israeli couple in their car in Hawara, injuring the man. A gunman from the Palestinian Islamic Resistance Movement (Hamas) killed two settlers in a car in the same town during the first round of de-escalation talks between Israelis and Palestinians last month in Aqaba. Settlers responded to that attack by setting fire to Palestinian homes and vehicles, resulting in the death of at least one Palestinian.
