Security researchers at the Slovak internet security company "ESET" reported that "a group of hackers has been spying for years on embassy officials from four countries in Belarus, including during the Ukraine war, by infiltrating local internet networks." Researcher Matteo Fu, the report's author published last Thursday, stated, "The hackers targeted around 15 devices belonging to diplomats from two European countries, one from South Asia, and another from Africa working in the embassies." The report noted that the cyber espionage campaign began in 2021 and remains active, indicating that "the hackers manipulated the victims' internet connections, allowing them to trick them into downloading malicious software without their knowledge." Belarus is Russia's closest ally in the war in Ukraine, having aided Moscow in shipping military equipment and transporting soldiers across its borders to support the war effort.
