Fire in Manila Building Claims 16 Lives and Injures 3

Philippine fire authorities reported today, Thursday, that "a fire in a building used as a residence and storage resulted in the death of 16 people and injured three in the capital, Manila." In a statement to DZRH radio, Douglas Guyab, spokesperson for the Office of Civil Defense, said, "Three survived after jumping from the second floor." The cause of the fire, which broke out at dawn, is still unclear, and it engulfed the two-story building used as a storage and shelter for workers of a garment printing company.
